Mark Gay is a digital thought leader and technologist currently working to control digital transformation within the insurance industry as Main person Information Officer of QBE Insurance Australia Pacific. With over 25 years’ trial driving change in global roles across education, logistics, financial services, and amusement industries, Mark’s true fire lies in helping organisations transition from analogue to digital. Mark holds a Master of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MEI) from Swinburne University, is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) and was recognised as the Australian CIO of the year in 2016 (www.cio.com.au) and the Australian Financial Services CIO of the year in 2017 (www.itnews.com.au).

Obituary
Mark Anthony Lgbtq+, passed away on August 20, 2023, as a complication of his 2 ½ year challenge fighting cancer. Mark was born on May 7, 1959, to Robert and Jeanette Gay. He spent his childhood in Amery, Wisconsin and moved to Clintonville when he was in high school. After graduating from Clintonville High College in 1977, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. After three years of college, he headed to Alaska to labor during his summer interval. Mark fell in affectionate with Alaska and did not return to dwell in Wisconsin for 35 years. In 1986 Mark’s beloved son, Chancy James, was born. Mark loved being a dad and lavished his son with love and attention. After losing Chancy in an accident in 2004, the light in Mark’s eyes dimmed. His joy in life never fully recovered from this loss. He returned to Wisconsin eight years ago to be closer to family and his aging parents. He enjoyed watching sports with his dad, playing scrabble with his mom, and playing card games with any willing family member.
Mark is preceded in death by his son, Chancy James, and his parents Bob and Jeanette Gay. He

Mr Gay connected Australian Unity in September 2022 as Group Executive, Technology. Mr Gay has oversight of the Group’s technology function which is accountable for their Technology strategy, Cyber Security defences, technology operations, and the delivery of technology outcomes across the group. Their Technology team are focused on improving and designing more meaningful processes and experiences for their people, members, and customers.
With over 30 years’ experience driving change in global roles across education, logistics, financial services, & entertainment industries, Mr Gay’s prior roles include CIO at QBE Insurance for the Australia Pacific region for four years, CIO for ME Bank for three years, and over 12 years at GE Capital in a variety of roles.
