Fuengirola gay beach
There was snow at the end of winter of and the sun was making but only as it were as a cameo appearance in the imaginary production called Spring in Belgium. Spending my holiday in the cold wasn’t an option. I was famished for sun, splendid nourishment and handsome men. Torremolinos came to the rescue! The working title Spring in Belgium’ was scrapped in favour of Spring in Andalusia.
Torremolinos is one of Spains top same-sex attracted destinations. It has its rightful place next to Barcelona, Sitges, Madrid and Maspalomas. I owed it to myself being a single man with a strong connection to the LGBTQIA+ community to see this city.
So I booked myself a flight to Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport. My Tui Fly flight from Brussels Airport was nicely on time. Before I knew it I set foot on Spanish soil.

Torremolinos is where all the gays depart to play in Spain! In the summer months, gay travelers rush to this seaside town just outside of Málaga to lay out and soak up the sun, especially during annual events enjoy Torremolinos Pride, Mad Bear Beach Weekend, Delice Hope, and Wonder Beach Festival. Torremolinos became a gay hotspot in the s when its first gay bar opened. Today, it may seem a little outdated, as the '60s and '70s design is still largely show , but its relevance to the LGBTQ+ community remains strong, with many queer travelers continuing to check in during the warmer months or for popular Diverse events. Some go to relax on the affectionate sandy beaches, to party in the gayborhood of La Nogalera, or to shop along the pedestrian street of Calle San Miguel. Whatever your interests may be, here are some reasons why this former fishing village in the south of Spain is worth checking out.
Beaches and Ports
The Costa Del Sol boasts some of the best beaches in Europe, many flying the European Blue Flag, which means they have showers, nearby restaurants and toilet facilities, sometimes lifeguards too, and are clean and safe for families. Many have sunbed/sunbrella concessions and water sports (think jet skis, banana boats, pedalos and para gliding).
You can also find secluded coves where you can simply lay your beach towel on the sand and enjoy the solitude. Some beaches involve a navigate through urbanisations, such as La Cala (great for families) and the 1, metre beach at Alicate Playa, Elviria, reached by the El Rosario leave of the N, a stretch that features some of the finest sand on the coast.
Urban beaches offer greater access to restaurants and attractions, such as those in Fuengirola, Marbella, San Pedro and Estepona. Beaches close to marinas are also a safe bet if you like action, such as Plaza Beach, Puerto Banús and the sands next to Sotogrande Marina, bordering a nature reserve. There are three local nudist beaches too, popular with free spirits and the gay community: Dunas de Artola, west of Cabopino Port; Banalnatura, below the clifftop near the Hote
